There are currently no openings available at Today Centre however one of our partnering agencies is recruiting for a full-time outreach worker.

 

IFSSA (Islamic Family and Social Services Association is hiring a full-time outreach worker, 40 hours/week (some evening and weekend work may be required). Up to $22 per hour depending on education and experience 

Role Description

The Family Violence Outreach Worker, reporting to the Program Director, will provide direct outreach services to victims of family violence in the Edmonton Muslim community.

 Responsibilities:

 Adhering to policy and procedures of the agency and the Fostering Healthy Families Program;

 Knowledge of the cycle of violence and barriers that families involved in DV face.

 Interacting a great deal with the immigrant Muslim community in Edmonton, specifically victims of family violence;

 Working from a culturally sensitive framework to complete in-take forms, assessments, risk and safety plans with clients;

 Providing referral resources;

 Creating comprehensive plans that meet the needs of the client;

 Assisting clients in accessing community resources, including but not limited to Alberta Works, Legal Aid, Regional Housing and family and educational supports;

 Educating clients in areas such as healthy relationships, and parenting skills and other areas related to domestic abuse through outreach work;

 Working with community partners to coordinate and deliver services to clients, including Child and Family Services;

 Facilitating therapeutic support groups;

 Transporting clients as needed to appointments;

 Maintaining accurate and complete intakes and case noting in the agency client database.

Required Skills: 

 Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment;

  Good communication skills with team members and community partners;

 Ability to use critical thinking skills in crisis situations involving families;

 Excellent knowledge of the causes, effects and solutions of family violence in ethno-cultural communities.

 The ability to utilize cultural sensitivity skills, and to work from a client centered model

 Knowledge of Muslim beliefs and practices; including comfort in working with community and religious leaders if client chooses;

 Maintaining an attitude of professionalism and comfort in working with clients and the general public;

 Computer skill- Microsoft Office;

 Organizational and time management skills. 

Qualifications

 Fluency in English a must; fluency in Somali or Arabic are an asset A diploma or degree in human services firled (social work, psychology, child and youth care) with minimum of two years experience.

 Knowledge and application of best practices

 Must have a reliable vehicle

 Experience working with families in crisis

 Required upon hire: A current Criminal Records Check, Child Welfare clearance , Driver’s abstract, proof of insurance.
