Suspended Sentence With Probation

If you partner is found guilty, a possible sentencing is:

Suspended Sentence with Probation

A suspended sentence means your partner has been found guilty and will have a criminal record. The Judge has suspended the sentence for a period of time, during which your partner must follow all the conditions set by the Judge in a "probation order." Usually one of these conditions requires regular reporting to a probation officer. The probation officer must tell you what conditions are in the probation order, including jail time served in the community rather than in an institution. The Judge may also order participation in a drug or alcohol treatment program.

If your partner doesn't follow the conditions of the probation order, he/she can be charged with another offence, as well as for the original offence.
