Childminding Specialist

The Today Family Violence Help Centre provides a single point of entry to comprehensive services for those impacted by family violence in Edmonton and area.  The Today Family Violence Help Centre uses an integrated service delivery model which requires partnerships with service providers to ensure a collaborative, coordinated community response for those impacted by family violence.

We are currently looking for an experienced individual for a part-time, contract position of Childminding Specialist to start immediately.  With the support of a Team Lead and four Family Violence Specialists, the individual will be responsible for minding and caring for children and youth, ages 0 to 17 years of age, who have been impacted by family violence, while their parent is meeting on-site with a Family Violence Specialist. The Childminding Specialist will also develop age-appropriate trauma-informed programming and activities.

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE Level 2), or related Human Services Diploma. Early Childhood Education Certificate (ECE Level 1), or equivalent, combined with several years working in the field of childcare/child development may be considered;
  • Minimum of one year direct experience working in a childcare environment;
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of family violence and the impact of trauma on children/youth is an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
  • Strong computer skills.

The position offers 16 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling mornings and/or afternoons Monday through Friday. The position has a current end date of March 31, 2019.
